Long-term Mission and International Collaboration
Russian Oleg Novitskiy and Belarusian Marina Vasilevskaya spent several days in space, heading to the International Space Station aboard the Soyuz spacecraft on March 23. Their companion, American Loral O'Hara, had a significantly longer stay in orbit, beginning her mission in September of the previous year. Recently, she was replaced on the station by another US astronaut, Tracy Dyson, which is another proof of the continuity and durability of international research projects in space.

Marina Vasilevskaya, as the first female cosmonaut from Belarus since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, has special reasons for pride.
